Douglas Owen Doug Morris, 59, of 3004 Deerfield Valley Road, passed away Monday, December 15, 2014, at his residence.
Doug was born on July 30, 1955, in Staunton, a son of the late Owen Winfield and Audrey Mae (Bartley) Morris.
Doug was a member of the Deerfield Baptist Church and worked for MGW Telephone Company for over thirty years. He was an active member of the Deerfield Volunteer Fire Department for over forty three years holding several offices including fire chief for fifteen years. Besides his passion for the fire department, Doug enjoyed hunting and fishing.
Doug is survived by his son, Adam D. Morris and his fiance Melissa Martinez of Stuarts Draft; Dougs fiance, Denise Kelley of Deerfield; a brother, Arnold M. Morris and wife Loretta of Staunton; a sister, Nora Lee Burton and husband Larry of Rosedale; two aunts and a number of nieces and nephews also survive.
The family will receive friends from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. Friday, December 19, 2014, in the Coffman Funeral Home and Crematory.
A Memorial service will be conducted at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday, December 20, 2014, in the Coffman Funeral Home Chapel by Rev. Larry Burton.
Active pallbearers will be Steve Sizemore, Doc Sizemore, Lee Ward, Jody Colaw, David Neil, Steve Grepps, Leon Bartley, Tom Peters, Glen McMullen, and Ron Smith.
Immediately following the service, at Dougs request, all Fire and Rescue agencies are welcome to participate with their apparatus for the Last Ride to the Deerfield Fire Department followed by a meal and fellowship.
It is suggested those desiring make memorial contributions to a charity of ones choice.
