Dorothy Louise (Humphreys) Smith, 80, wife Edgar P. Corky Smith, Jr. of 365 Linden Drive, Staunton, passed away Friday evening, (January 9, 2009) in the Augusta Medical Center, Fishersville following a lengthy illness.
Louise was born on January 10, 1928 in Augusta County, a daughter of the late Oscar M., Sr. and Mary (Gibson) Humphreys.
Mrs. Smith was retired as a Nursing Supervisor from the Kings Daughters Hospital with 44 years of service.
She was a faithful member of St. Pauls United Methodist Church for over 60 years, where she was a member of the adult choir and a Lioness with the Woodrow Wilson Lions Club.
In addition to her parents, Louise was preceded in death by two brothers, Lloyd F. Humphreys and Oscar M. Humphreys, Jr.
In addition to her husband to whom she was married on August 27, 1954, survivors include a son, Edgar P. Eddie Smith, III; a daughter, Karen S. Harris, both of Staunton; four grandchildren, Jeremy, Melissa and Tiffany Shifflett and Kyler M. Grove; a great-grandson, Patrick Sims; a special friend Helen D. Caldwell and a number of nieces and nephews also survive.
A celebration of her life will be conducted 2:00 p.m. today, (January 11, 2009) in the St. Pauls United Methodist Church by the Revs. G. Jeffrey Allen and Wade Munford.
The family will receive friends following the service.
