Doris Ann Bowen, 66, of 616 Rife's Ford Road, Verona, passed away on Wednesday, June 14, 2023 at the Shenandoah Hospice House in Fishersville.
Ms. Bowen was born in Staunton, Virginia on November 27, 1956, the daughter of George Washington Bowen and Margaret Louise (Sipe) Bowen.
Doris graduated from Fort Defiance High School, retired from food service, was a lifetime member of the Verona Fire Department and was a member of the Verona Fire Department Ladies Auxiliary. She enjoyed photography, writing poems, watching butterflies, traveling with family, and was an avid Elvis Presley fan.
In addition to her parents, Ms. Bowen was preceded in death by two sisters, Nellie Virginia (Bowen) Woods and Ellie Mae (Bowen) Helmick; and two nieces, Nancy Wright and Mary Litteral.
Surviving, are three brothers, Buddy Bowen, Hank Bowen, and Thomas "Tom" Bowen and his significant other, Beverly Moore, all of Verona; nieces and nephews, Betty Woods, Robert Woods, Lillian Woods, Jane Wilberger, Peggy Helmick, Charles Helmick, Melany Bowen, Matt Bowen and Marsha Bowen; great-nieces and great-nephews, Travis Wilberger, Colleen Helmick, Jessica Litteral, Mario Litteral, Sarah Vazquez, Stephen Helmick, Johnathon Helmick, Michael Helmick, Kaitlyn Jelmick, Cody Bowen, Cory Howell, Kailtyn Bowen, Cere Taylor Bowen, Kelsey Kidd, Cruz Bowen and Cade Bowen; great-great-nieces and great-great-nephews, Ashley Charlton, Modycallia Helmick, Sanitago Helmick, Gabriel Litteral, Moises Sanchez, Juan Sanchez, Paisley Litteral, Gracie Litteral, Waylons Via, Jase Via, Hayes Bowen, Bennetts Bowen, Lacey Kidd, Madelynn Kidd, Ella Kidd, and Harlan Kidd; and a great-great-great-nephew, Easton Charlton.
The family will receive friends from 6:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. on Saturday, June 17, 2023 at Coffman Funeral Home and Crematory.
A celebration of life will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Sunday, June 18, 2023 in the Coffman Funeral Home Chapel by Pastor Steve Wolcott.
Burial will follow in Middle River Church of the Brethren Cemetery.
Active pallbearers will be Ed Dillow, Steve Sprouse, Andrew Demetrius, Bernie Wolcott, Andy Coffman, and Eric Wade.
Honorary pallbearers will be Patty Bowers, Karen Organ, Annette Coffman, Gail Wolcott, Hatidza Karajic, and Debbie Dillow.
It is suggested that those desiring make memorial contributions to the Verona Fire Department, P.O. Box 348, Verona, VA 24482.
Coffman Funeral Home and Crematory at 230 Frontier Drive in Staunton is in charge of her arrangements.
