Dean Ernest Sutton, Sr., 73, husband of Cynthia A. (Sprouse) Sutton of 161 Wyndham Hill Drive passed away Monday, December 16, 2013 at his residence.
Mr. Sutton was born March 15, 1940, in Washington, D.C. a son of the late Frederick Ernest and Fleda Lorraine (Barr) Sutton.
Dean was a member of Destiny Family Worship Center. He retired in 2002 from the Augusta County Service Authority as Deputy Director. In 1975, Dean joined the Staunton-Augusta Rescue Squad and was very active for thirty-eight years. His accomplishments included serving on the CSEMS Council, Kings Daughters Hospital Board, and VAVRS District 1 VP, Deputy Rescue Chief, Vehicle Crash Rescue Instructor for 27 years, and an EMT instructor for twenty years. Dean was a Life Member of the Staunton Augusta Rescue Squad and the VAVRS. He was very talented with his hands and he enjoyed woodworking.
In addition to his parents, Mr. Sutton was preceded in death by a son, Dean Ernest Sutton, Jr.; a brother, Larry Sutton and a sister, Diane Sutton Mallory.
Surviving in addition to his wife of thirty-two years, is a son, Rick L. Sutton and wife Michelle of Waynesboro; two step-sons, Robert E. L. Supinger and wife
Mi Suk of Lynchburg and Brian K. Supinger and wife Bethany of Staunton; a step-daughter, Cathy A. Wales and husband Sam of Ft. Defiance; seven grandchildren, Christopher Supinger, Josey Wales, Heather Sutton, Megan Wales, Derrick Sutton, Faith Supinger and Joseph Supinger and a number of nieces and nephews.
The family will receive friends from 6 to 8:00 p.m. Thursday, December 19, 2013 at Coffman Funeral Home and Crematory and other times at the residence.
A Celebration of life will be conducted 11:00 a.m. Friday, December 20, 2013 in Coffman Funeral Home Chapel by Pastor Chuck Balsamo.
Burial will follow in Augusta Memorial Park.
Active pallbearers will be Staunton-Augusta Squad members, John Craig, Jeff Lucus, George Savage, Steve Rohr and co-workers of the Augusta County Service Authority, Don Moyers and Dave Hutchinson.
Honorary pallbearers will be the Staunton-Augusta Rescue Squad and
the Augusta County Service Authority.
