David Wilson Harvey, Sr.'s Obituary

David Wilson Harvey, Sr., 90 widower of Jessie Opal (Caudell) Harvey of 38 Jays Lane passed away Thursday, April 9, 2015 at his residence.
Mr. Harvey was born on September 24, 1924 in Hinton, WV, a son of the late Henry Alvis and Lola Blanche (Meador) Harvey.
David was a member of Victory Baptist Church. He was a retired engineer from CSX Railroad after forty-two years of service, was a Veteran of the United States Army, serving his country during WWII, and just awarded, on April 8, 2015, one day prior to his death, the French Legion of Honor. Mr. Harvey was an avid trout fisherman, he enjoyed wood working such as making walking canes and he collected antique cars.
In addition to his parents and wife of sixty years, Mr. Harvey was preceded in death by a son, Gary Patrick Harvey; two brothers, James Harvey and Edward Harvey; a sister, Clara Smithson; two grandchildren; and a great-great granddaughter.
Mr. Harvey was the last surviving member of his immediate family.
Surviving are three sons, David Wilson Harvey, Jr. and his wife Margaret of Ft. Worth, TX, Charles Jesse Chuck Harvey of Staunton and Daniel Scott Harvey and his fiance Gloria Shiflet of Waynesboro; two daughters, Judith Ann Howland and her husband Dorrance of St. Petersburg, FL and Lola Suzanne Keaton and her husband David of Waynesboro; ten grandchildren; ten great-grandchildren; one great-great grandson.
A Graveside service will be conducted at 2:00 p.m. Friday, April 17, 2015 in the Lilly Crews Cemetery at Nimitz, WV by Pastor Bill Thompson.
A Celebration of Life will be conducted at 5:00 p.m., Saturday, April 18, 2015 in Victory Baptist Church by Pastor Rader Ogden.
The family will receive friends following the service in the church fellowship hall.
It is suggested those desiring may make memorial contributions to Cowboys for Christ, Post Office Box 7557, Ft. Worth, TX 76111 or Victory Baptist Church, 1176 Lee Jackson Highway, Staunton, VA 24401.
Coffman Funeral Home and Crematory, 230 Frontier Drive in Staunton is in charge of his arrangements.
