Obituary

David MacArthur Balsley, 84, husband of Patricia Balsley, of Staunton passed away on Tuesday, August 18, 2026 at his residence.

He was born in Augusta County on August 17, 1942, a son of the late Henry Elwood and Marjorie (Fielding) Balsley.

David proudly served in the United States Marine Corps and later dedicated many years to UPS, where he worked as a truck driver before retiring. A man of deep faith and service, David was a devoted member of Olivet Presbyterian Church. He served as an elder, cared for the church grounds as groundskeeper for 48 years, and shared his voice in the church choir. David found great joy in the simple pleasures of life. He loved gardening, canning, and cooking, taking pride in the things, he grew and prepared for those he loved, and especially giving his famous pound cake to numerous family and friends. He was also a life member of the Staunton-Augusta Rescue Squad, reflecting his strong commitment to serving and helping his community.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a sister, Gloria (Balsley) Lester and a brother, Alan Balsley.

In addition to his wife of 62 years, he is survived by a son, Joel Balsley (Catherine); a grandson, Jake Balsley; his siblings, Philip Balsley, Marvin Balsley (Linda), Connie Doyle, and Larry Balsley, and numerous nieces and nephews.

A Celebration of Life will be held at 1:00 p.m. on Wednesday, August 26, 2026 at Olivet Presbyterian Church by Pastor Lee Thomas.
