Curtis Reid Brown, Sr., 76, husband of Kathryn J. Brown of Lee Jackson Highway, passed away Friday, June 5, 2015 at his residence.
Mr. Brown was born on May 3, 1939 in Leesburg, a son of the late Joseph Dan and M. Alberta (Sanderson) Brown.
Curtis was a member of Rising Zion Baptist Church, where he served as a trustee and deacon and was a veteran of the United States Army. He worked for ASR and later was an over the road truck driver for thirty-three years, driving for several trucking firms and prior to retirement he worked for Shenandoah Trucking. Mr. Brown lived in Rockbridge and Augusta Counties all his life.
In addition to his parents, Mr. Brown was preceded in death by a son, James E. Brown; a brother, Silas Brown; a sister, Bettie Jo Brown; and a brother-in-law, Fred Jordan.
Mr. Brown is the last surviving member of his immediate family.
Surviving in addition to his wife of fifty-five years, are two sons, Curtis R. Brown, Jr. and his wife Rebecca of Richmond, CA and Douglas O. Brown of Staunton; a grandson; two step-grandsons; a niece and nephew; a great-niece; two aunts; and a host of cousins and friends.
A Celebration of life will be conducted at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday, June 13, 2015 in the Coffman Funeral Home Chapel by Rev. Mildred B. Middlebrooks.
The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service.
Burial will follow in the Rising Zion Cemetery.
