Clay Marshall Back, 78, widower of Peggy Ann (Thurber) Back, formerly of Skyview Circle, passed away Tuesday, January 12, 2016 in Shenandoah Nursing Home in Fishersville.
Mr. Back was born on January 28, 1937 in Arbor Hill, a son of the late Harman Cecil and Alice Johnson (Arehart) Back.
Clay was a member of the Verona United Methodist Church and was a proud veteran of the United States Army. Mr. Back retired from Smiths Transfer with 29 years of service as a Rate Department Clerk and following retirement was employed at the Virginia School for the Deaf and Blind for 10 years in the maintenance department. He was a graduate of Wilson Memorial High School and enjoyed fishing and reading westerns.
In addition to his wife who passed away on March 29, 2013 and his parents, Mr. Back was preceded in death by a brother, Paul Harmon Back.
Survivors include a sister, Mary Alice Cox and her husband Carl of Swoope; and a number of nieces and nephews.
A joint Memorial service for Mr. and Mrs. Back will be conducted at 2:00 p.m. Friday, January 15, 2016 in the Coffman Funeral Home Chapel by Pastor Wade Munford.
The family will receive friends following the service.
