Claude Hartman Wade, 77, husband of Betty Lee (Parrish) Wade, of 400 Audubon Street, passed away Wednesday, July 1, 2009 at his residence.
Mr. Wade was born May 31, 1932 in Augusta Springs, a son of the late William Dabney and Annie Thelma (McCarty) Wade.
Claude was a member of Grubert Avenue Church of God and was an eight year veteran of the United States Air Force. He owned and operated Wades Store for over forty years before retiring.
He was a strong man of faith, willing to share his love of the Lord with those he came in touch with.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a brother, John M. Mack Wade and two sisters, Mrs. Naomi Moran and Mrs. Ferebee M. Leslie.
Surviving in addition to his wife to whom he married on August 26, 1969, survivors include a daughter and son-in-law, Teresa Ann Sims and her husband Bobby of Staunton; a sister and brother-in-law, Stella (Wade) Hildebrand and her husband Elwood of Craigsville; three grandchildren, Michael, Tiffany and Bryan Fitzgerald and a dearest pet dog Sukie.
A celebration of Claudes Life will be conducted 11:00 a.m. Friday, (July 3, 2009) in the Grubert Ave Church of God by Pastor Harold L. Wade. His body will be placed in the church one hour prior to the service.
Burial will follow in Thornrose Cemetery.
The family will receive friends this evening from 7 til 8:30 p.m. in the Coffman Funeral Home and Crematory.
Active pallbearers will be Bruce Cassidy, George Howdyshell, Wayne Pettry, John Swartz, Bob Ralston, Gary Morgan, Bobby Clark and Marion Sandy.
It is suggested those desiring make memorial contributions to the S.P.C.A. 33 Archery Lane, Staunton, Va. 24401 or to the Grubert Ave. Church of God, 505 Grubert Ave., Staunton, Va. 24401.
Coffman Funeral Home and Crematory, 230 Frontier Drive Staunton is in Charge of his arrangements.
