Christina Nicole Hipes, 19, of 143 Holeyscript Lane, Greenville passed away Thursday, August 13, 2009 in the University of Virginia Hospital in Charlottesville.
Miss Hipes was born January 15, 1990 in Staunton, a daughter of Rebecca Lynn (Balser) and Michael C. Hipes.
Christina was a member of Greenville United Methodist Church where she was active with the youth of the church and enjoyed helping in the nursery. Christinas faith was evident in the way she lived her life. Her faith and spirit touched those around her and she was thankful for each day for what God had given her. She was a 2009 graduate of Riverheads High School, where she was a member of the FCCLA and enjoyed going to all the schools sporting events and activities.
Christina was a very sociable young lady with a smile for everyone she came in contact with, she loved spending time with her many friends and when she was unable to be with her friends, she was either talking with them on her cell phone or texting.
In addition to her parents, Christina is survived by a brother, Zachary Michael Hipes; a sister, Kayleigh Rebekah Hipes, both at home; maternal grandparents, Ernest and Shelby Balser, Sr. of Middlebrook; paternal grandparents, Freddie and Dolly Hipes of Fishersville and paternal great-grandmother, Betty Hipes of Greenville; a number of aunts, uncles, cousins; a very close and special friend and doctor with whom Christina bonded, Dr. Ben Gaston; and two very special pet dogs Buddy and Blacky.
A celebration of Christinas life will be conducted at 5:00 p.m. Tuesday, August 18, 2009 in the Greenville United Methodist Church by Rev. Dr. Kevin W. Haynes.
Burial will be private.
The family will receive friends Monday evening from 6:00 to 9:00 p.m. in the Coffman Funeral Home.
Honorary pallbearers will be the Riverheads High School class of 2009.
