Chester Hawood Kincaid, 91, widower of Helen Mae (Downey) Kincaid, of 316 Ridge Road, Staunton passed away Friday, (October 23, 2009) in Augusta Health in Fishersville.
Mr. Kincaid was born October 21, 1918 in Augusta Springs a son of the late Charles Warren and Leola Amanda (Hodge) Kincaid.
Chester was a member of Augusta Springs Presbyterian Church and a veteran of the U.S. Army, serving his country during World War II. Following his discharge from the U.S. Army, Mr. Kincaid began his employment at the Stillwaters Worsted Mills in August of 1942 and later went to work as a meat cutter for the Reids Store in Staunton. He retired in 1991 from the Shopand-Save Store on Augusta Street to care for his ailing wife. He was an avid Thursday night bingo player at the Staunton Moose and during his youth he was a pitcher for the Augusta Springs and Augusta County Baseball Teams. Chester loved his family and was a faithful follower of the Charles Stanley Ministries.
In addition to his wife to whom he was married to for 69 years, Mr. Kincaid was preceded in death by a brother and sister-in-law, John Kincaid and his wife Jessie and two sisters, Bessie (Virgie) Kelsey and Lena Mildred Williams.
Mr. Kincaid was the last surviving member of his immediate family.
Survivors include a daughter, Wanda K. Nagy of Staunton; a son, Warren Lee Kincaid and his friend Penny Goff of West Augusta; three grandchildren, Stephan Nagy and his wife Jennifer, Janis Nagy and her friend Macon Moyer and Jarred Kincaid and his wife Tania; four great grandchildren, Kyle and Seth Peters, April Strickler and Ben Demory; a special niece Nancy Blalock and her husband Billy of Florida; and several nieces and nephews also survive.
Funeral service will be conducted 2:00 p.m. Monday, October 26, 2009 in the Coffman Funeral Home Chapel by the Rev. Connie Crawford.
Burial will follow in Thornrose Cemetery.
The family will receive friends this afternoon from 2:00 to 4:00 p.m. in the Coffman Funeral Home and Crematory or at other times the residence of his daughter, Mrs. Wanda K. Nagy, 403 Hudson Avenue, Staunton.
Active pallbearers will be Harold Wayne Bosserman, Johnny Kincaid, Larry Kincaid, Danny Sine, Mark Bowles and Jeff Bowles.
Honorary pallbearers will be Bill Martin, Gene Fridley and Ronnie McKee, Donnie McKee and Ed Mays.
