On August 4, 2025, our family said goodbye to one of the kindest and most loving souls we've ever known. Charlotte Snyder Chandler, born on April 29, 1939, spent 86 years brightening the lives of those around her — not only through her gentle nature but also with her quiet wit and enduring wisdom.

To her family and friends, Charlotte was more than a mother, grandmother, sister, aunt, and great-grandmother — she was a source of comfort, strength, and unwavering support. Her presence offered peace, her hugs brought calm, and her ability to truly listen made everyone feel seen and heard.

Charlotte had a lifelong love for animals and nature, especially birds. She took particular joy in caring for hummingbirds, faithfully tending to her feeders and lighting up at the sight of them. In her final years, she found a special companion in her beloved dog, Sam, who brought her comfort and companionship each day.

She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, James E. Chandler; siblings Roy Snyder Jr., Frances Bradon, Catherine Shaw, and Harry "Jimmy" Snyder; daughters Teresa Davis and Debbie Atkins; her son, David Shifflett Sr.; and great-grandson John Baskerville IV.

She is survived by her daughter, Carolyn Spicuzza; granddaughters Stacy Davis, Denise Davis, Ashley Davis, and Elizabeth Baskerville; grandsons David Shifflett Jr., D. Keith Shifflett, Herbert Davis Jr., and Kevin Davis; stepdaughter Janet Truxell; and several great-grandchildren.

Charlotte will be remembered for the love she gave so freely, the peace she brought to others, and the light she carried through life. Her legacy of kindness and quiet strength lives on in the hearts of all who knew her.

A visitation will be held on Tuesday, August 12, 2025, from 5:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. at Coffman Funeral Home & Crematory in Staunton, Virginia.

The funeral service will follow on Wednesday, August 13, 2025, at 11:00 a.m. at Linden Heights Baptist Church in Staunton, Virginia.

Burial will follow in Augusta Memorial Park.

Active pallbearers will be David Shifflett, Jr., John Baskerville, III, Jack Clem, Brian Cason, Derrick Taylor, and Keith Shifflett.

Coffman Funeral Home and Crematory, 230 Frontier Drive, Staunton is in charge of her arrangements.
