Charles Lucian “Charlie” Davis, Jr., 83, husband of Mary Susan (Brebner) Davis, of Staunton, passed away on Wednesday, April 1, 2026 at the University of Virginia Medical Center in Charlottesville.
Mr. Davis was born in Naola, Virginia on November 10, 1942, the son of the late Charles Lucian Davis, Sr. and Myra Lee (Maddox) Davis.
Charlie was blessed in love throughout his life. In 1964, he married Dawn, whom he met through mutual friends, and they shared 24 cherished years together. He later found love again through their children and married Susan in October of 1997, with whom he enjoyed many more happy and fulfilling years.
Mr. Davis was a proud veteran of the United States National Guard, faithfully serving his country for six years. Following his military service, he began a long and dedicated career with DuPont in Waynesboro, where he worked for 48 years. He later retired from Koch Industries as a Powerhouse Supervisor.
Charlie was a hardworking man who took great pride in providing a good home and life for his children. His guiding principles were rooted in his unwavering devotion to God, his family, and his country.
A man of deep faith, Mr. Davis was a devoted member of Pleasant View Evangelical Lutheran Church and was also active at St. Peter’s Lutheran Church. His commitment to community extended beyond the church, as he was a member of the Virginia Cattlemen’s Association and the Republic National Committee.
In his younger years, Charlie gave generously of his time to others, coaching little league baseball and football in Fort Defiance through the Verona Community Association, where he also served as president.
Charlie had a zest for life and never met a stranger. He loved to travel, especially spending time at Emerald Isle, and was an avid fan of UVA sports and the Washington Redskins, where he was known for his legendary tailgating.
He will be remembered for his warm spirit, strong work ethic, and the simple, meaningful life he so deeply cherished.
In addition to his parents, Mr. Davis was preceded in death by his first wife, Judith “Dawn” (Wimer) Davis; a sister, Sarah Elizabeth Davis; and a nephew, Jeremy Allen.
Surviving, in addition to his wife of thirty years, is a son, Keith Davis and his wife, Beth of Fishersville; a daughter, Amy (Davis) Hisey and her husband, Brent of Huddleston, VA; a step-daughter, Mary Cate Griffith and her husband, Dr. Algin Garrett of Midlothian; a sister, Becky (Davis) Allen and her husband, Edward of Roanoke; an aunt, Hazel Maddox of Lynchburg; four grandchildren, Meghan Davis, Kate Davis, Ann Charles Davis, and Crew Davis; a niece, Diana Allen; many cousins including special cousins, Bert Winfield, Betsy Waller, and David Johnston; special friends, Sam Davis, Ted and Vickie Davis, David Williams, Bruce and Laura Hull, Randall Baker, and David Miracle; and his caregiver, Donna Cason.
A memorial service will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Saturday, April 11, 2026 at Pleasant View Evangelical Lutheran Church by Pastor David Bacon.
The family will receive friends following the service in the fellowship hall.
