Charles Edward "Chuck" Neer, Sr., 93, widower of Elizabeth Jane (Watkins) Neer, of Maxwell Drive, Staunton passed away Monday, November 5, 2018 at Hospice of the Piedmont Center for Acute Hospice in Charlottesville.

Mr. Neer was born on September 25, 1925 in Liberty, KS, son of the late Earl Leroy and Myrtle (Pedwell) Neer.

"Chuck" was a charter member of Memorial Baptist Church where he taught the Men's Fellowship Sunday School Class. He was a veteran of the Merchant Marines during World War II, the Korean Conflict and was a recipient of the WWII Victory Medal, the Korean Service Medal and the United Nations Service Medal. Prior to retiring from WTON Broadcasting as a Chief Engineer, Chuck was employed by WANV. He was a member of the Staunton Kiwanis and enjoyed traveling and going to the beach with his family.

In addition to his wife of 66 years and parents he was preceded in death by a daughter, Jane (Neer) Lunsford; a brother, Leroy Neer; and a sister, Wilma Thurmond.

Surviving are two sons, Charles E. Neer, Jr. and his wife, Karen, of Charlottesville, and Robert E. Neer and his wife, Mary, of Staunton; three grandchildren, Sam Neer and his wife, Michelle, Luke Neer, and Travis Meadows; two great-grandchildren, Faith Neer and Joy Neer; and special family friend, Bryce Lunsford and his wife Trish.

A Memorial Service will be conducted 11:00 a.m. Saturday, November 10, 2018 in Memorial Baptist Church by Pastor Mark Jones.

The family will receive friends following the service in the Great Hall.

A private burial will be in Oaklawn Mausoleum and Memory Gardens.
