Charles William "Chub" Kennedy, 89, of Buena Vista, Virginia left for his eternal home on Valentine's Day, Sunday, February 14, 2021 surrounded by his family.
Mr. Kennedy was born in Rockbridge County, Virginia on January 23, 1932, a son of the late Charles and Ruby (Jackson) Kennedy.
Chub was a lifetime member of the Little River Presbyterian Church, serving as treasurer for many years. He was retired from Owens Illinois and Locher's Silicia Plants. He enjoyed hunting for mushrooms, fishing, gardening, and was always a taxi for his grandkids. Mr. Kennedy was jokingly termed "Mayor of Goshen" because he knew everyone, had many friends, and never met a stranger.
Charles was preceded in death by his parents and his lifelong partner, Mildred Hall; his siblings, David, Earl, Donald, Wreathie, Mildred, and Gladys; adopted sons, Dickie and Pete Hall; daughter-in-law, Peggy Hall; and a great-grandson, Ryan.
Mr. Kennedy was the last surviving member of his immediate family.
Surviving are his grandchildren, Pam Sprouse, Jeannie Eakin (Wayne), Anna Smith (Nick), Peggy Jolly (Zeb), Richard Hall (Nikki), David Hall (JoAnn), Bonnie Tolley (Bobby), Teresa Hess (Mike), Shannon Hall (Crystal), Amy Byram (Brock); great-grandchildren, Mikie, Laura, Gloria, Samantha, George, Ashley, Brittany, Derek, Kelly, Kaitlyn, Keaton, Nathan, Zoe, Emily, Samantha, Bridgett, Adam, Dillion, Caleb, Tyler, Hailey, Ethan, Caleb, Lincoln, and Karolina; great-great-grandchildren, Tyler, Molly, Jeremiah, Isabelle, Elijah, Carson, Jackson, Callie, Avery, Thomas, and Emma Marie; a multiple number of nephews and nieces; many good friends, Tommy and Sharon Humphreys; and daughter-in-law, Fay Hall.
Those desiring may pay their respects by visiting Coffman Funeral Home and Crematory on Friday, February 19, 2021 from 9:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m.
The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service.
A Celebration of Life will be held at 11:00 a.m. Saturday, February 20, 2021 in the Lebanon Presbyterian Church by Pastor Lynwood Wilkes.
Burial will follow the service in Little River Presbyterian Church Cemetery in Goshen.
Active pallbearers will be Barry Gum, Tommy Humphreys, David Hall, Shannon Hall, Danny Clifton, and Mike Jolly.
