Charles Thomas Byrd, 71, husband of Patsy Pearl (Clifton) Byrd, of 197 Whiskey Creek Road, Churchville, passed away Monday, February 25, 2013 at the residence of his daughter, Donna Harrigan in Greenville.
Mr. Byrd was born March 21, 1941 in Conan Beach, Virginia, a son of the late Stanley Rowland and Essie Frances (Bradshaw) Byrd.
Charles was a member of the Bethany Presbyterian Church, a veteran of the United States Army and Air Force and was retired from the Staunton Correctional Center as an officer with thirty years of service. He liked to hunt, watch television and enjoyed watching his granddaughter raise her animals.
In addition to his parents, Mr. Byrd was preceded in death by a sister, JoAnn Cook.
Surviving in addition to his wife of 46 years are two daughters, Donna B. Harrigan and her partner, Pinky Claytor and Teresa A. Taylor and her husband Scotty all of Greenville; three brothers, Benjamin R. Byrd, David E. Byrd both of Staunton and Stanley E. Byrd of La Quinta, CA; a granddaughter, Jordan Kate Taylor; a special niece, Robin Knott; a close and special friend, Betty (Warren) Byrd; his pet dog, Sweet-Pea and a number of nieces and nephews also survive.
A Memorial service will be conducted 2:00 p.m. Saturday, March 2, 2013 in the Coffman Funeral Home Chapel.
Burial will be private.
The family will receive friends from 5:00 to 8:00 p.m. Friday, March 1, 2013 at the home of his daughter, Donna Harrigan, 656 Broadhead School Road, Greenville.
