Cecil Ray West, 72, husband of Joyce Faye (Fitzgerald) West of 315 Sterling Street, passed away Wednesday, September 20, 2017 at his residence.
Mr. West was born in Charlottesville, Virginia on November 9, 1944, a son of the late Cecil Alexander and Sarah Jane (Thacker) West.
Cecil was a member of Church on the Hill and was known as the chief cook and bottle washer. He graduated from Lane High School in 1965, owned and operated Cecils Yard Care since 1970, worked for A\u0026P/Super Fresh for twenty-five years, and later worked as a part-time security guard at RMC for two years. Cecil enjoyed cooking, baking, and furniture making. He also donated furniture he made to the National Wild Turkey Federation to be auctioned, at their annual fundraiser.
Surviving in addition to his wife of fifty-two years, are his children, Hope (West) Shifflett of Staunton, Tabitha West of Verona, Charity (West) Russell and husband Jim of Staunton, and Jonathan West and wife Amy of Naples, Florida; ten grandchildren; four great-granddaughters; brother, Francis James West and wife Annie of Troy; and a sister, Lillie Mae Sullivan and husband Joe of Waynesboro; and numerous nieces and nephews.
A Memorial service will be conducted 6:00 p.m. Sunday, September 24, 2017 in the Church on the Hill by Pastor Brandon Williams.
The family will receive friends from 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. Monday, September 25, 2017 at the familys residence.
