Carole Jean (Schurman) Nelson

Carole Jean (Schurman) Nelson, 74, of Middlebrook, Virginia, loving wife of Dennis Dean Nelson, went to her new permanent address in heaven to spend eternity with her Lord, on Monday, October 24, 2016 in the University of Virginia Medical Center in Charlottesville.
Mrs. Nelson was born on October 26, 1941 in Baltimore, Maryland, a daughter of the late Earl, Sr. and Katharine (Moulds) Schurman.
As a young woman in Baltimore, Carole was always positive, highly energetic and saw the good side of all people. She took on the challenge of life with an attitude that affected in a beautiful way, everyone in her presence. Caroles entry into the working world included areas of endeavor starting with the Baltimore Sun Newspaper and onto Martin Mariettia Aerospace and Electronics. Later on moving to Newport News, to work in banking, followed by being the assistant and head secretary to U.S. Navys Commander-in-Chief of the U.S. Atlantic Fleet in Norfolk, taking a sabbatical from all to raise two children, and after, to become assistant to the Director of the Governors Magnet School for the Arts at Old Dominion University in Norfolk. Dennis and Carole met at the Armed Forces Staff College in Norfolk where she worked with the training and support section providing guidance to numerous classes of International and U.S. Forces studying governmental policies and tactics. Dennis and Carole escaped the Tidewater area in 1992 to find solace in the Valley by living in the Middlebrook area, restless after two years, Carole went to work for Dominion Lodging out of Roanoke. She became manager of the Best Western and Sleep Inn Hotels in Staunton and later Manager of Sales for a total of eighteen years of hotel service, making hundreds of friends here in the U.S. and Internationally.
Surviving in addition to her husband of thirty-one years, are two children, David E. Brownley of Stuarts Draft and Jennifer L. Brownley of Richmond; two step-sons, Edward Nelson and Eric Nelson; a step-daughter, Deborah J. Touchon all of Virginia Beach; two brothers, Earl Schurman and Richard Schurman both of Baltimore, MD; granddaughters, Brittany Brownley, Rachel Brownley, Myra Zulema Jean Brownley; and a number of nieces and nephews, also survive.
A Celebration of life will be conducted at 2:00 p.m., Saturday, October 29, 2016 in the Coffman Funeral Home Chapel by Rev. JoAnn Bunn.
Burial will follow in the Mt. Hermon Cemetery.
