Carl Bruce Thompson, 55, husband of Lisa (Wimer) Thompson of 111 Garland Drive was lifted into the Kingdom of Heaven from his wife\u0027s loving arms and surrounded by family and friends on Monday, September 24, 2012 @ 12:25 p.m. Bruce was loved and supported by many during his short journey with cancer. He accepted his illness by saying it is what it is and what do we do now? His positive and peaceful attitude was a comfort to all those around him.
Mr. Thompson was born June 11, 1957 in Staunton, a son of the late Genette (Cheney) Thompson.
Mr. Thompson was employed with Western State Hospital in the Rehabilitation Services department for 33 years. This was truly his calling for he loved and willingly gave of himself to the staff and clients alike. His positive attitude and smiling face was felt and seen by everyone. Bruce was a veteran of the United States Army, a graduate of Buffalo Gap High School class of 1975 and he enjoyed drawing. He was truly a servant of God for he spent his entire life selflessly helping others.
In addition to his mother, he was preceded in death by two sisters, Janice Hudson and Darlene Johnson.
Bruce leaves behind his wife and best friend, Lisa of 31 years and a beautiful son, Ian. Ian was the love of his life that he called the Best Boy in the World. He gave all of himself to this child and would have done anything for him. He told Ian in the past weeks that they had an invisible string connected to each others heart so that they would never be apart.
Survivors include three brothers, Richard Thompson of Highland County, Wayne Thompson of Churchville and Aron Thompson of Stuarts Draft; a sister, Lorraine Arehart of Stuarts Draft; numerous nieces, nephews, great nieces and nephews and great-great nieces and nephews as well as many friends.
A Memorial Service will be conducted 2:00 p.m. Friday, September 28, 2012 in Coffman Funeral Home Chapel by Rev. Peter Grimm.
Burial will follow in Thornrose Cemetery.
