Carl V. Sprouse, Sr.
CRAIGSVILLE:
Carl Verned Sprouse, Sr., 82, husband of Dorothy O. Dot (Poole) Sprouse of 204 Estaline Valley Road, Craigsville went to be with his Lord and Savior on Saturday, October 15, 2011 in the Augusta Health in Fishersville.
Mr. Sprouse was born January 22, 1929 in Augusta County, a son of the late Stanley H. and Neallie Elizabeth (Sprouse) Sprouse.
Mr. Sprouse was the co-owner and operator of P\u0026S Variety and Antiques, a business he enjoyed running with his wife. He worked as a Sawyer from Burke-Parsons-Bowlby Corporation, J.B. Barnes Lumber Company and Augusta Lumber. Mr. Sprouse was a very strong Christian man with a wonderful faith in his Lord, he was a member of the Little River Church of the Brethren and served his country in the United States Army during the Korean Conflict. Mr. Sprouse was a wonderful family man who had a strong work ethic, who loved to hunt, liked attending yard sales, a talented carpenter, enjoyed woodworking and playing music with his family
In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by a brother, Preston M. Sprouse, a sister, Libby Campbell and a grandson, Carl Duane C.D. Sprouse.
Surviving in addition to his wife of 62 years, are four sons, Carl V. Sprouse, Jr. and his wife Reda of Swoope, Larry D. Sprouse and his wife Regina of Craigsville, Sandford D. Sprouse and his wife Teresa L. of Staunton and Carl R. Thompson of Charlottesville; three daughters, Linda S. Cash and her husband of Ervin of Fishersville, Brenda A. Thompson and her husband Harold of Craigsville and Kathy Y. Berry and her husband Gwin of Vesuvius; a sister Dorothy M. Sprouse of Goshen; thirteen grandchildren, Teresa Lawson, Anthony Cash, Tammie Kent, Conway Cash, Trevor Thompson, Kellyn Overton, Dakota Sprouse, Shasta Sprouse, Alexandra Sprouse, Joey Sprouse, Daniel Sprouse, Whitney Berry and Autumn Berry; thirteen great-grandchildren also survive.
A Celebration of Life will be conducted at 11:00 a.m. Wednesday, October 19, 2011 in the Estaline Valley Church of the Nazarene by Pastors Michael Herring, Wayne Via, Claude Williams and Bill Curry.
Burial will follow in the Oaklawn Mausoleum and Memory Gardens.
Active pallbearers are his grandsons, Carl Thompson, Anthony Cash, Conway Cash, Trevor Thompson, Dakota Sprouse, Joey Sprouse and Daniel Sprouse.
Honorary pallbearers will be Scott Lawson, Steve Overton, Benjamin Kent and Dennis Hays.
The family will receive friends 6 to 8 p.m., this evening Tuesday October 18, 2011 in Coffman Funeral Home and Crematory and other times at the residence.
