Carl William Myers, 78, husband of Shirley (Sheets) Myers, of 103 Thomas Street, died Friday, (January 1, 2010) surrounded by his family in the University of Virginia Hospital following a long 47 year battle with diabetes.
Mr. Myers was born in Pennsylvania on September 1, 1931, a son of the late John L. and Kathryn (Mummert) Myers.
Carl was a veteran of the U.S. Air Force, serving his country during the Korean Conflict. He retired from Smiths Transfer with 32 years of service as a Claims Investigator, he was an avid golf player, he enjoyed traveling and camping with his family and was a member of Bethany Presbyterian Church.
In addition to his wife to whom he married on October 23, 1955 survivors include a son, Jamie A. Myers and his companion Annette Hensley; a daughter and son-in-law, Lisa M. Long and her husband Ronnie, all of Staunton; a brother, Glen Myers and his wife Flossie of Waynesboro; four grandchildren, Shaun Myers, Brandon Swisher and his wife April, Amberly Elmore and her husband Shane and Stephen Byrd; six great-grandchildren, Kylee, Kadin and Kamden Swisher, Reagan and Kathryn Elmore and Payton Byrd; his very special pet dog Baby a number of nieces and nephews and many special friends at People Places whom he spent many many hours with.
A memorial service will be conducted 1:00 p.m. Monday, (January 4, 2010) in the Coffman Funeral Home Chapel by the Rev. Marshall Braylo. Entombment will be private in the Oaklawn Mausoleum and Memory Gardens.
The family will receive friends anytime at the residence.
At the request of the family, their will be no public viewing.
