Carl Preston
Deacon, Sr.
August 9, 1954 – December 22, 2022
Carl Preston Deacon, Sr., 68, husband of Diane Marie Deacon, of Fairfield, went to be with the Lord on Thursday, December 22, 2022 at his residence.
Mr. Deacon was born in Rockbridge County, Virginia on August 9, 1954, a son of the late Douglas Whitmore Deacon and Lydia Marie (Smith) Deacon.
Carl enjoyed hunting, bluegrass festivals, playing his banjo, and listening to Rhonda Vincent. He retired from Hershey after thirty-eight years. Carl was an E-4 corporal in the Marines and a machine gunner in the Army National Guard. He was a member of Timber Ridge Old Stone Presbyterian Church.
In addition to his parents, Mr. Deacon was preceded in death by two brothers, Clarence Deacon and Whitmore Deacon; and two sisters, Bessie Dudley and Gaye Caldwell.
Surviving, in addition to his wife of forty-five years, is a son, Carl Deacon Jr.; brothers, Kenton Deacon, Ray Deacon, Wade Deacon and Hunter Deacon; sisters, Helen Deacon and Hilda Dudley; a number of nieces and nephews including special nephews, Douglas Deacon, Eugene Reese, and Mickey Smith.
A celebration of life will be held 2:00 p.m. on Tuesday, January 10, 2023, in the Coffman Funeral Home Chapel by Pastors Carl Moore and Patrick Lanaghan. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service.
Active pallbearers will be Robert Lucas, Wes Cash, Clement Waggy, Mike Benevitch, Douglas Deacon, and Buddy Engleman.
Honorary pallbearers will be Eugene Reese, Harold Cook Frankie Dunlap, Roger Miller, James Carter, Larry Campbell, Justin Peters, Larry King, Roger Conner, Billy Weeks, and Chris Mace.
A Private Burial will take place in Timber Ridge Presbyterian Church Cemetery in Lexington.
Per family request, anyone who attends Vesuvius Baptist Church is asked to not attend the service.
Coffman Funeral Home and Crematory, 230 Frontier Drive in Staunton is in charge of his arrangements.
