Burnett Rogers "Burnie" Wilkerson, 82, husband of Charlotte Lorraine (Thomas) Wilkerson of Cardinal Street, passed away Sunday, December 9, 2018 at his residence.
Mr. Wilkerson was born in Augusta County, Virginia on May 30, 1936, a son of the late Anthony Perkins and Oval (Robertson) Wilkerson.
Burnett was an active member of First Baptist Church and the Trinity Sunday School class. He retired in 1995 from the Virginia Department of Transportation as a Quality Control Engineer after 44 years of service. "Burnie" enjoyed hunting, fishing, gardening, as well as coaching little league football and basketball. Mr. Wilkerson will also be remembered for his excellent skills in cooking.
In addition to his parents, Mr. Wilkerson was preceded in death by two brothers, Warren Wilkerson and Ronald "Ron" Wilkerson and three sisters, Evelyn Gibson, Frances Sutton and Ann Calverley.
Surviving in addition to his wife of 63 years, is a son, Burnett Christopher "Chris" Wilkerson; two daughters, Pamela Sue Evans and her husband Dr. Larry and Ellen Smith and her husband Mason all of Staunton; five brothers, Anthony Perkins Wilkerson, Jr., Carl W. Wilkerson, Frank M. Wilkerson and his wife Pluma, Paul A. Wilkerson all of Staunton, and Fred A. Wilkerson and his wife Frances of Verona; two sisters, Helen Knicely of Maryland, and Judith Zdinak and her husband Ed of Staunton; five grandchildren, Joshua Evans, Abram Evans and his wife Anna, Jessica Evans, Katelyn Rowe and her husband Willy and Jacob Wilkerson; two great grandchildren, Ryan Wilkerson and Elena Rowe and numerous nieces and nephews also survive.
The family will receive friends from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m., Wednesday, December 12, 2018 in the Coffman Funeral Home and Crematory.
A Memorial service will be conducted at 2:00 p.m. Thursday, December 13, 2018 in the First Baptist Church by Dr. Steve Traylor.
Burial will be private in Augusta Memorial Park.
