Brenda Elaine (Hodge) Thompson, 64, wife of Garland Freddie Thompson of 60 Forest Drive passed away Tuesday, October 7, 2014, at her residence.
Mrs. Thompson was born on January 10, 1950, in Staunton, a daughter of the late Charles Ernest Sr. and Dorothy May (Bright) Hodge.
Brenda was a member of Rankins United Methodist Church. Prior to retirement from Valley Feed Company as a secretary / receptionist, she worked a number of years for Lowes as a cashier. She enjoyed softball, bowling, camping, the outdoors and cookouts. Brenda loved her grandchildren and attending their programs at school. Her greatest love was her family.
In addition to her husband, Mrs. Thompson is survived by a son, Justin Simmons and his wife Marie of Staunton; a step-son, George E. Thompson and his wife Holly of Knoxville, TN; two step-daughters, Wanda Althoff and her companion Rick Tolley of Waynesboro and Joyce Johnson and her companion Bobby Leach of Stuarts Draft; two brothers, Charles E. Hodge, Jr. and his wife Connie of North Port, FL and David W. Hodge and his wife Theresa of Millboro, VA; three sisters, Janet E. Bouwkamp of Port Charlotte, FL, Deborah H. Mears and her husband Tim of Langhorne, PA, and Kathryn H. Crandal and her husband Rick of Fort Wayne, IN; eight grandsons, Nathan Lane Simmons, Morgan K. Groah, Dalton Groah, Jacob Leach, Trevor Johnson, Philip Thompson, David Thompson, and Luke Thompson; and a god-daughter, Jaiden Faith MacDonald.
The family will receive friends from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. Friday, October 10, 2014, in the Coffman Funeral Home and Crematory and other times at the residence.
A Celebration of life will be conducted at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday, October 11, 2014, in the Coffman Funeral Home Chapel by Pastors Charles E. Carroll and George E. Thompson.
Burial will follow in the Rankins Cemetery.
Active pallbearers will be Ken Bright, Harry Buckland, Will Berry, Steve Huffman, Ray Wilson, Jerry Duff, Brent Weaver, Boonie Viar, Bobby Leach, and Brock Burns.
It is suggested those desiring make memorial contributions to Augusta Health Hospice of the Shenandoah, Post Office Box 215, Fishersville, Virginia 22939.
