Brenda Lee (Curry) Bolen, 71, wife of Lewis V. Bolen of 697
Craig Dr., passed away Sunday, December 29, 2013 at Augusta Health
in Fishersville.
Mrs. Bolen was born June 14, 1942 in Harrisonburg, Virginia, a daughter of the late William Curry, Sr. and Roberta (Fields) Curry Johnson.
Brenda was a member of Mt. Salem Baptist Church and was employed by Social Security Office as the Administrator. She went to high school at Lucy F. Simms High School and attended Eastern Mennonite and Hampton Universities. Brenda was a member of the Christian Women\u0027s Group, AARP, VFW Auxiliary, Yarn Hook and Thimble, Les Filles and the Colt Followers. She was very active in the community volunteering as a parent advocate at the local schools, hospice, and the Staunton City library council and vacation bible school. Mrs. Bolen loved spending time with her family and helping others.
In addition to her parents, Mrs. Bolen was preceded in death by a brother, William Curry, Jr.; step-father, Percy Johnson and step-sister, Katherine Coates.
Surviving in addition to her husband of forty-nine years, are two daughters, Roberta Bolen and Kristy Smith; a son, Lewis Bolen, II and wife Dorothea Bolen; four grandchildren, Cierra Smith, Brandon Bolen, Tarrington Smith and Julius Bolen; several aunts and numerous cousins and nephews; and many others she has adopted throughout the years and a host of friends also survive.
The family will receive friends from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. Thursday, January 2, 2014 in Coffman Funeral Home and other times at her home.
A Celebration of Life will be conducted 11:00 a.m. Friday, January 3, 2014 at Mt. Salem Baptist Church by Reverend Doctor Floyd A. Miles.
Burial will follow at Oaklawn Memory Gardens.
Active pallbearers will be Myles Sheffey, Irvin Bryant, III, Linwood Bundy, Jr., David Kier, Henry Fields and Chester Smith, Jr.
