Blanche (Thurber) Paxton, 88, widow of Hubert Dean Paxton passed away Tuesday, February 21, 2012 in Augusta Health in Fishersville.
Blanche was born November 12, 1923 in Staunton, a daughter of the late Walter and Edna (Stockdale) Thurber.
Mrs. Paxton retired from Western State Hospital where she was employed as a Librarian Assistant. She was a lifetime member of St. Pauls United Methodist Church and devoted thirty-five years to the churchs following organizations, the Flower Guild, the United Methodist Women, Helping Hands Circle and the Sunshine Group.
In addition to her parents and husband, Mrs. Paxton was preceded in death by three sisters, Agnes Thurber, Mildred Mackey
and Ellen Szczur.
Surviving are two sons, Wayne Paxton and his wife Brenda of Staunton and Dean Paxton and his wife, Karen of Richmond; a grandson, Justin Paxton; granddaughter, Stacey Paxton; step-granddaughters, Beth Scruggs and her husband, Dana and Tamara Hickey and her husband James; step-grandson, Greg Zaccaria; and
four great-grandchildren also survive.
A Funeral service will be conducted 11:00 a.m., Saturday, February 25, 2012 in St. Pauls United Methodist Church by Rev. G. Jeffrey Allen and Rev. Wade Munford.
Burial will follow in Thornrose Cemetery.
Active pallbearers will be Richard Kirkland, Keith Maclam, Jeff Spencer, Don Spencer, Dale Rankin, Tony Jones and Rev. Wade Munford.
The family will receive friends from 7:00 to 8:30 p.m. Friday, February 24, 2012 at Coffman Funeral Home and Crematory.
