On December 12, 2012 in the Augusta Health Hospital, Mr. Billy Pop Bill Coker, 81, husband of Elizabeth (Carter) Coker of 26 Acorn Lane joined his heavenly father and loved ones.
Mr. Coker was born December 20, 1930 in Williamsburg County, SC, a son of the late John Muldrow and Emma Mae (Feagin) Coker.
Billy was a very strong Christian who loved the Lord and was an active member of Crossroads Baptist Church. He retired in December of 1992 as a construction carpenter with Fairfield Bridge Construction with twelve years of service. He served in the United States Army, liked to hunt, fish and enjoyed telling stories. Billy was know as a man who Never met a stranger
In addition to his parents, Billy was preceded in death by two sisters.
In addition to his wife of fifty-eight years survivors include three daughters, Pamela Hammer of Fishersville, Beverly Burford and her husband Doug of Waynesboro and Phyllis Hartley and her husband Tony of Staunton; two brothers, Ulmer Coker of Elloree SC and Willis Coker of Pearl, Ms; a sister, Ila Mae Jacobs of Cordele, GA; nine grandchildren, Shane Hammer and his wife Jennifer, Brock Hammer, Ian Hammer, Amanda Harmon, Ashley Shifflett and her husband Adam, Austin Burford, Vanessa Mundie and her husband Chris, Patrick Hartley and his wife Cari and Sarah Peters and her husband Brett; twelve great-grandchildren; special friends, Cricket, Jeff, Beverly Hartley and family and Eddie Hammer and a number of Nieces and Nephews also survive.
A celebration of life will be conducted at 2:00 p.m. Saturday, December 15, 2012 at Crossroads Baptist Church by Pastor Bill Johnson.
Burial will follow in Augusta Memorial Park.
The family will receive friends from 6-8:00 p.m. Friday, December 14, 2012 in the Coffman Funeral Home and Crematory and other times at the residence of Billys daughter and son-in-law, Phyllis and Tony Hartley, 215 Hermitage Road, Staunton.
Active pallbearers will be his grandsons.
It is suggested those desiring make memorial contributions to St. Jude Childrens Hospital, 501 St. Jude Place, Memphis, TN 38105.
Coffman Funeral Home and Crematory, 230 Frontier Drive, Staunton is in charge of his arrangements.
