Beverly Jane Thompson's Obituary

Beverly Jane (Baker) Thompson, 70, widow of Charles "Butch" Thompson of Craigsville, passed away Wednesday, January 23, 2019 at her residence.

Mrs. Thompson was born on September 16, 1948 in Staunton, a daughter of the late Keith and Jane (Ramsey) Baker.

Beverly was a 1966 graduate of Buffalo Gap High School, received her Bachelor's Degree in Psychology from Mary Baldwin College, now known as Mary Baldwin University. She was a lifetime member of the Craigsville Presbyterian Church and the Presbyterian Women of the Shenandoah Presbytery. While living in Arizona, Beverly was a member of Chinle Trinity Presbyterian Church and a graduate from Northern Arizona University, where she received her Master's Degree in Teaching and English as a second language. Mrs. Thompson was employed by the Tsaile, Arizona Public School System, a Silver Sister of Alpha Delta Kappa, a volunteer with the Chinle Fire Department, and worked as a volunteer voter Registrar. Mrs. Thompson worked as a teacher for the Bath County Public School System. She retired from the Augusta Correctional Center, where she was an adult Education Teacher, organized the Big Read Program, and a Relay for Life Team. Beverly was an active member of the Augusta County Democratic Party.

Surviving is a son, Eric Thompson and his wife Crystal of Craigsville; a daughter, Elizabeth "Beth" Wood of Fishersville; seven grandchildren, Jacob Wood, Joshua Wood and his wife Taylor, Jessica Thompson, Justine Thompson, Jonah Thompson, Michael Thompson, and Cheyaine Bruening; three great-grandchildren, Amy and Sadie Wood, and Gabriel Thompson; a sister, Betsy Arritt and her husband David of Covington; a sister-in-law, Kay Wimer; brother-in-law, Donald G. Thompson; an aunt, Blanche Fortune; and a number of cousins, nieces and nephews.

The family will receive friends from 2:00 p.m. until 4:00 p.m. Sunday, January 27, 2019 at the Craigsville Presbyterian Church.

A Celebration of life will be conducted 11:00 a.m. Monday, January 28, 2019 at the Craigsville Presbyterian Church by Reverend Gwen Carr and Reverend Olivia Haney.

Burial will follow the service, in the Craigsville Community Cemetery.

Active pallbearers will be Jacob Wood, Joshua Wood, Jonah Thompson, Michael Thompson, Jason Wimer, and Shannon Wimer.

Memorial contributions may be made to the Craigsville Presbyterian Church, Post Office Box 178, Craigsville, Virginia 24430 or the Augusta Health Foundation Hospice of the Shenandoah, Post Office Box 1000, Fishersville, Virginia 22939.
