Betty Ann (Simmons) Hott Puffenbarger, 73, formerly of G-Street, passed away Friday, March 10, 2017 in the Augusta Nursing and Rehabilitation Center in Fishersville.
Mrs. Puffenbarger was born on February 16, 1944 in Highland County, Virginia, a daughter of the late Edward Lee and Mary Frances (Balser) Simmons.
Betty was a member of the Staunton Seventh Day Adventist Church, and was retired as a seamstress from Genesco-L-Greif Company after 33 years of service. Betty had a wonderful work ethic working two jobs, including C.F. Richards Junior Academy and selling Avon to help support her family. She enjoyed attending yard sales, flower gardening, cooking and baking. Mrs. Puffenbarger was a loving and caring mother and grandmother.
In addition to her parents she was preceded in death by a brother, William Simmons; three sisters, Frances Switzer, Shirley Buchanan, and India Clark; and a great-grandson, Julian Mawyer.
Surviving is a son, James D. Danny Hott and his wife Teresa of Staunton; two daughters, Beverley A. Hott and Teresa Mawyer and her husband Randy both of Staunton; two brothers, Carl Simmons and his wife Emily of Staunton, and Bob Simmons and his wife Becky of Illinois; three sisters, Catherine Beverage, Nancy Breeden, and Sharon Back all of Verona; three grandchildren, Randal Alan Mawyer, Darrell Ray Hedrick and wife Melanie, and Megan Ashley Johnson and husband Jake; two great-grandchildren, Ella Marie Mawyer, and Conner Bentley Johnson; special friends, Janet H. Coiner, Connie Swisher, and Cordelia Underwood; and a number of nieces and nephews also survive.
The family will receive friends from 6:00 p.m.-8:00 p.m. Sunday, March 12, 2017 in the Coffman Funeral Home and Crematory.
A Celebration of life will be conducted 11:00 a.m. Monday, March 13, 2017 in the Coffman Funeral Home Chapel by Pastor David Bailey.
Burial will follow in Oaklawn Mausoleum Memory Gardens.
Active pallbearers will be Darrell Hedrick, Randal Mawyer, Jake Johnson, Lee Ham, David Campbell, Eric Simmons, Sean Simmons and Ervin Buchanan.
It is suggested those desiring make memorial contributions to the St. Jude Childrens Research Hospital, 501 St. Jude Place, Memphis, Tennessee 38105-1942.
Coffman Funeral Home and Crematory, 230 Frontier Drive, Staunton, is in charge of her arrangements.
