Obituary

Betty Elaine (Shull) Carter, formerly of Mt. Solon, passed from this life on January 6, 2017 surrounded by loved ones at the home of her daughter and son-in-law where she had lived since mid-February.
She was born December 11, 1929, the eldest child of Rufus William and Lillie Jane (Simmons) Shull of Mt. Solon, Va.
She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, James Lee Jimmy Carter; a sister, Veta Lee Shull Kincaid; and a grandson, Stacy E. Eutsler.
Always active in sports, she played independent basketball for North River after high school graduation. She worked for the Celanese Corporation and Wedgewood prior to retirement. She was a member of Staunton SDA Church where she served as a deaconess and was active in Community Services. She was a charter member of the Mt. Solon Fire and Rescue, having served as a past president. During her husbands life, she was active in the VFW Post 2216 Womens Auxiliary, she had a genuine Christian spirit of sharing what she had and caring for anyone in need.
Survivors include her children, Linda Kaye (Eddie) Eutsler and James William Billy Carter; two brothers, Donnie (Elsie) Shull and R.C. Shull; grandchildren, Ashley Tress Dove, Kimberly (Jeff) Glover, Kylor (Kara) Eutsler, and Trafton Eutsler; great-grandchildren, Ashton Dove, Cody Glover, Clancy Glover, Jace Eutsler, and Reagan Eutsler, as well as 3 great-great granddaughters. She is also survived by numerous nieces, nephews, and cousins.
A Celebration of her life will be held on 1:00 p.m. Monday, January 9, 2017 in the chapel of Coffman Funeral Home led by Pastor Jonathan Ytterock. Visitation with family will be offered after the service. There will be no family night or public viewing. Burial will be private.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Mt Solon Fire and Rescue, 36 Emmanuel Church Rd. Mt. Solon, Va. 22843 or Hospice of the Shenandoah, PO Box 215 Fishersville, Va. 22939.
If so inclined, you may visit the family at the home of her daughter and son-in-law at 315 Patterson Mill Road, Grottoes, VA.
The family would like to thank Dr. Patrick Judson at Augusta Health Cancer Center, Hospice of the Shenandoah, her special nurses Mary and Megan, and Home Instead Senior Care and her caregivers Mary and Mary Jane. Wed also like to thank our cousin Nancy who would stay with mom on a minutes notice. Thank each of you for the difference you made and the support we received.
