Betty Jean (Patteson) Bowman, 86, wife of Paul Davis Bowman of 241 Taylor Street passed away Tuesday, December 31, 2013 at Augusta Health in Fishersville.
Mrs. Bowman was born July 23, 1927 in Miami, Florida, a daughter of the late Robert Hampton and Marjorie Mae (Warwick) Patteson.
Betty was a member of Memorial Baptist Church and was the church secretary for a number of years. She sang in the church choir, was very active in W.M.U. and various women circles within the church, as well as a vocalist in the Staunton Choral Society. While living in Vinton, she was a member of Vinton Baptist Church and was the past president of W.M.U. She was also a member of the Music Club of Big Stone Gap for three years.
In addition to her parents, Mrs. Bowman was preceded in death by a son, Timothy Bowman.
Surviving in addition to her husband of sixty-seven years, is a son,
Cary Bowman and wife Annette of Nellysford; a daughter, Paula B. Hoal of Staunton; five grandchildren, Amanda Smith and husband Scott, Mark Bowman and wife Danielle, Nicole Bowman, Sarah Sweitzer and Susie Botkin and husband Addam; four great-grandchildren, Riley Smith, Ian Bowman, Alaina Jordon, Eli Botkin and an expected baby Botkin; a sister, Doris Prillaman of Wilmington, NC; brother-in-law, Joseph Bowman of Greensboro, NC; and a number of nieces and nephews also survive.
A memorial service will be conducted at 11:00 a.m. Friday, January 3, 2014 at Memorial Baptist Church by Pastor Temple D. Myers and Pastor Ben Sprouse.
The family will receive friends following the service.
