Betty Lucille (Smiley) McCray, 79, widow of Odie Graham McCray passed away Monday, October 15, 2012 at Envoy Health Care from a fifteen year siege with Alzheimers disease.
Mrs. McCray was born April 3rd, 1933 in Lexington, a daughter of the late Arthur and odema (Chittum) Smiley.
Mrs. McCray was a member of Mt. Joy Presbyterian Church and was a retired receptionist from the office of Guy F. Atkinson. Betty loved singing hymns and Patsy Cline, rocking new babies and playing cards with her grandchildren. She was a beloved wife, mother, sister, grandmother and friend who will fiercely be missed.
In addition to her parents and husband of fifty-two years, she was preceded in death by her brothers, Arthur Bud and Clyde Smiley and a sister, Nancy (Smiley) Staton.
Surviving are two sons, Arthur Graham McCray and wife Pamela of Staunton and Jeffry Austin McCray and wife Vicki of Winchester. Betty has grandchildren who loved her very much, Shanda McCray Hansen and husband Daniel and Leland Graham McCray and wife Stephanie all of Staunton. Betty has three precious great-granddaughters, Gabriella Jeanne and Daphne Violet Hansen and Peyton Faith McCray.
A Memorial Service will be conducted 5:00 p.m. Saturday, October 20, 2012 in the Coffman Funeral Home Chapel by Pastor H. Max Bolin. The family will receive friends following the service.
Bettys family suggests contributions in her memory to be made to the Daily Living Center, 990 Hopeman Parkway, Waynesboro, VA 22980.
Coffman Funeral Home and Crematory, 230 Frontier Drive, Staunton is in charge of her arrangements.
