Betty Jane Gilmer's Obituary

Betty Jane (Gregory) Gilmer, 75 widow of Cooper Hyde Gilmer of 3 Sunderlin Place, Verona, passed away Thursday, April 29, 2010 at the Shenandoah Hospice House in Fishersville.
Mrs. Gilmer was born on May 15, 1934 in August County, Virginia, a daughter of the late Harry Thomas and Margaret (Miller) Gregory.
Betty was a member of Annex United Methodist Church and she worked in the Staunton Kroger Deli until her retirement in 1993. She loved cooking and spending time with family and friends.
In addition to her parents, Mrs. Gilmer was preceded in death by two brothers, Guy Herman Gregory and Bill Gregory and a sister, Minnie Huffman.
Survivors include a son and daughter-in-law, Roger Allen Gilmer and his wife Diane Susan of Lyndhurst; two brothers and sisters-in-law, Harry T. Gregory, Jr. and his wife Mary of Newport News and Roy David Gregory and his wife Becky of Staunton; a sister, Helen Marie Morganthal of Staunton; three grandchildren, Travis Allen Gilmer of Gambrills, MD, Melissa Ann Galvin and her husband Dwain of Stuarts Draft and Chris M. Saunders of Waynesboro; six great-grandchildren, Cody Gilmer, Seth Galvin, Kelsey Saunders, Alex Saunders, Casie Saunders and Madison Saunders; a special friend, Gene Simmons of Waynesboro and a number of nieces and nephews also survive.
A celebration of life will be conducted 11:00 a.m. Monday, May 3, 2010 at the Coffman Funeral Home Chapel by Pastor Russell Heinrich.
Burial will follow in Augusta Memorial Park in Waynesboro.
The family will receive friends from 6 to 8 p.m. Sunday, May 2, 2010 in the Coffman Funeral Home and Crematory or other times at the residence of her
son and daughter-in-law, Roger and Diane Gilmer, 15 Inch Run Lane, Lyndhurst.
Active pallbearers will be her two grandsons, Travis Gilmer, Chris Saunders, Dwain Galvin, Buster Lovegrove, Al Wimer and Clyde Eavey.
Honorary pallbearers will be members of the Annex United Methodist Church and Dr. Daniel Wachspress.
It is suggested those desiring make memorial contributions to the Cystic Fibrosis Foundation in honor of great-grandson, Seth Galvin, 2727 Enterprise Parkway, Suite 104, Richmond, VA 23294 or the Augusta Health Hospice of the Shenandoah, 64 Sports Medicine Drive, Fishersville, VA 22939.
