Betty Lou (Defibaugh) Loomis, 90, of Fishersville passed away on Monday, November 7, 2022 at her residence.
Mrs. Loomis was born in Caldwell, West Virginia on October 12, 1932, a daughter of the late William Everette Defibaugh and Lucy Mae (Wiekle) Defibaugh.
Betty was a member of The Salvation Army Church in Staunton for sixty-two years. She was Home League Secretary for over thirty-seven years and was the division's Woman of the Year for 1993. Betty was a Silver Star Mother in the Salvation Army, as her late daughter was Lt. Col. Sandra Defibaugh. Betty was well known throughout the southern territory and enjoyed being the lead overseer for the Salvation Army's Annual Apple Butter Canning, which she assisted with for over thirty-seven years.
Mrs. Loomis retired from Western State Hospital as a psychiatric charge aide. Family was most important to her; she was the oldest of thirteen siblings and raised four children. She loved the Lord and her church family.
In addition to her parents, Mrs. Loomis was preceded in death by her former spouses, John McAllister, George David Hazelwood, "Pete" Boyd Bottenfield, and John Loomis, Jr.; a daughter, Lt. Col. Sandra Lou Defibaugh of Salvation Army; a brother, Eddie Wayne Defibaugh; three sisters, Janice Ann Defibaugh, Shirley Spicer, and Carol Sue Ryder; and a step-son, Kevin Bottenfield.
Surviving, are two sons, Gary Steven Defibaugh and his wife Linda of Staunton and David William Hazelwood and his wife Mae of Crozet; a daughter, Deborah Sue Morrison and her husband Harold of Fishersville; three brothers, Franklin George Defibaugh and his wife Anna, Everett Defibaugh and his wife Sandra, and George Defibaugh; and five sisters, Millie Trent, Nellie Spicer, Wilma Childs , Hilda Perry and Linda Morehart; grandchildren, Michael Steven Defibaugh, Janet Lee Simmons, and Nicole Ann Hazelwood, Carletta Henderson, Jamie Morrison, Matthew Kerr, and Emily Corbman; great-grandchildren, Ashley Defibaugh, Felicia Rexrode, Parker Hylton, Sarah Hylton, Katie Defibaugh, Kaleb Defibaugh, Abby Henderson, Kendrick Morrison, Logan Henderson and his wife Anna, Drake Morrison, McKenzie Sontz Morrison, Sophia Sontz Morrison, Allen Corbman, Irelyn Corbman, Natallie Kerr, Trucker Kerr, Hannah Kerr, and Autumn Kerr; great-great-grandchildren, Bailey, Ashton, McKinsey and Ryder; step-children, Wayne Loomis, Lisa (Bottenfield) Randozzo, Cindy Bottenfield, Boyd Jr. Bottenfield, Brenda Bottenfield-Shoemaker, and Bobby Bottenfield; step-grandchildren, Arkadia Bottenfield, Jennifer Bottenfield, and Michael Bottenfield; special nieces, Vanessa Cropp and Helen Mahone; special nephews, Wayne Taylor and John Defibaugh; and a number of other nieces and nephews.
A celebration of life will be held at 12:30 p.m. on Thursday, November 10, 2022 in the Coffman Funeral Home Chapel by Major Mark Woodcock, Major Sam Hearn, Rev. Everett Defibaugh, and Lt. Johnathan Meredith.
The family will receive friends from 10:00 a.m. until 12:00 p.m. on Thursday, November 10, 2022 at Coffman Funeral Home and Crematory.
Burial will follow in Oaklawn Memorial Gardens.
Active pallbearers will be Michael Defibaugh, Matt Kerr, Logan Henderson, Matthew Henderson, Parker Hylton and Gary Riley.
