Bertie Louise (Powell) Lowe, 80, of 3 Bells Valley Road, Goshen
passed away Thursday, August 25, 2011.
She was born on June 2, 1931 in Rockbridge County, a daughter of the late Clain Allen and Ida Mae (Patterson) Powell.
Bertie was a life long resident of Goshen and was a member of the Valley Independent Baptist Church.
In addition to her parents she was preceded in death by her husband, Bill Lowe and fourteen siblings.
Survivors include a son and daughter-in-law, Dwight Wayne Powell and his wife Shirley of Staunton; two brothers, Leroy Powell of Staunton and Clain Allen Powell, Jr. and his wife Edith of Goshen; two sisters, Mary Martin and her husband Scotty of Goshen and Lillie Cobb and her husband Skeeter of Staunton; two grandchildren, Danielle Hill and her husband Antjuan of Shreveport, Louisiana and Lindsey Howard and her husband Tory of Altus, Oklahoma; two great-grandchildren Amaya and Deshawn Hill and several special nieces and nephews also survive.
A Funeral Service will be conducted 2:00 p.m. Wednesday, August 31, 2011 in Valley Independent Baptist Church by Pastor William E. Robertson, Jr.
Burial will follow in the Bells Valley United Methodist Church Cemetery.
Active pallbearers will be Jerry Moore, Darrell Cobb, Calvin Sprouse, Allen Adkins, Deric Zwart, Josh Dodson and Donnie Arnold.
Honorary pallbearers will be J.T. Via and Steward Powell.
The family will receive friends 6 to 8 p.m., Tuesday, August 30, 2011 in Coffman Funeral Home and Crematory and other times at the home of Wayne and Shirley Powell, 353 Mary Grey Lane, Staunton, VA.
It is suggested that memorial contributions be made to Valley Independent Baptist Church Building Fund, 5165 Little Calf Pasture Hwy, Craigsville, VA 24430.
Coffman Funeral Home and Crematory, 230 Frontier Drive in Staunton is in charge of her arrangements.
