Bertha Etta (Roberts) Humphrey, 90, widow of Theodore Ted Humphrey of 307 Devon Road passed away on Monday, December 14, 2015 at her residence.
Mrs. Humphrey was born on November 15, 1925 in Burnsville, a daughter of the late Roy and Elsie (Eagle) Roberts.
Bertha was a member of the Fifth Street United Church of the Brethren and was retired from the C\u0026P Telephone Company after thirty-five years of service. Following her retirement from the telephone company Mrs. Humphrey worked for fifteen years at Kings Daughters Hospital as a Switchboard Operator. She was a lifelong member of the telephone group Pioneers as well as a member of the AARP. Bertha was a devoted, hardworking wife, mother, grandparent and sister who would do anything for her family and friends. She was a wonderful Christian lady who was sweet, giving and had a loving soul who thought of other before herself. Bertha enjoyed NASCAR, watching her favorite driver Jeff Gordon, her pets and animal shows. She will be greatly missed by her grandson/caregivers, Joe and his wife Holly.
In addition to her parents and husband, Mrs. Humphrey was preceded in death by a son, Larry Humphrey; three brothers, Ilo Roberts, Kyle Roberts and Rob Roberts; and a sister, Dorothy Milstead. Surviving is a son, Ray Humphrey and his wife Marsha of London, OH; three brothers, Waldo Roberts, Jerry Roberts and Leroy Roberts; six sisters, Shirley Thorpe, Hilda Clark, Vivian Rowe, Goldie Carter, Mabel Phillips and Nellie Barnett; six grandchildren, Joe, Christine, Amy, Jeff, Marty and Marcy; ten great-grandchildren; seven great-great-grandchildren; two step-grandchildren; three step-great-grandchildren; two great-great-step-grandchildren; and a number of nieces and nephews.
The family will receive friends from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. Thursday, December 17, 2015 at Coffman Funeral Home and Crematory.
A Celebration of life will be conducted at 11 a.m. Friday, December 18, 2015 in the Fifth Street United Church of the Brethren by Pastor Russell Marshall.
Burial will follow in Oaklawn Memory Gardens.
Active pallbearers will be Bobby Roberts, Larry Miller, Robert Neer, Tory Humphrey, Joshua Canham and Marty Humphrey. Honorary pallbearers will be Jeff Humphrey and Michael McIntire.
Coffman Funeral Home and Crematory, 230 Frontier Drive, Staunton is in charge of her arrangements.
