Bernard Albert Bernie McClanahan, 75, husband of Dolores Ellen (Waggie) McClanahan of 4003 Little Calf Pasture Highway passed away Saturday, February 13, 2016 in Augusta Health in Fishersville.
Mr. McClanahan was born on July 17, 1940 in Haymarket, a son of the late Levi Bernard and Virgie Virginia (Grimsley) McClanahan Hutchison.
Bernie was veteran of the United States Air Force and a member of the Herndon Masonic Lodge #264 A.F. \u0026 A.M. Prior to his retiring from the Augusta Correctional Center, he was employed by the Town of Herndon as acting Police Chief and R.R. Jake Smith as his farm hand. In 1963, he attended the Fairfax County Police Academy and in 1964, he graduated from the Central Police Training School. He enjoyed farming, fishing, hunting and socializing at BGs Restaurant in Craigsville with his friends.
In addition to his parents, Mr. McClanahan was preceded in death by a brother, Roy McClanahan and a sister, Virginia Kathryn Kay McClanahan.
Surviving in addition to his wife of fifty years are two sons, Patrick L. McClanahan of Churchville and James McClanahan of Craigsville; two brothers, Stuart McClanahan of Front Royal and Ronnie McClanahan of Leesburg; nieces, Kathryn Gallucci and Teresa McClanahan; nephews, Roy, Jason, Joseph, Stuart, Jr. and Matthew McClanahan also survive.
The family will receive friends from 5:00 to 7:00 p.m. Wednesday, February 17, 2016 at Coffman Funeral Home and Crematory with Masonic Rites at 7:00 p.m. by the Herndon Masonic Lodge #264 A.F and A.M.
A Celebration of Life will be conducted at 11:00 a.m. Thursday, February 18, 2016 in Coffman Funeral Home Chapel by Rev. Linwood Wilkes and Rev. Olivia Haney.
Burial will follow in Craigsville Community Cemetery.
Active pallbearers are his brothers, Stuart McClanahan and Ronnie McClanahan, and Basil Karr, William Wilcher, Blaine Lawhorn and Sammy Colvin.
