Barbara Jean (Smith) Strother, 74, widow of Garrnett Poots
Strother of 14 Frontier Ridge Court passed away Monday, July 18, 2011 in Northridge Medical Park in Charlottesville.
Mrs. Strother was born June 14, 1937 in Moyers, West Virginia, a daughter of the late Fredrick and Orphia Mabel (Moats) Smith.
Barbara was a member of Oak Grove Baptist Church and she retired from Unifi in 2000 with twenty-five years of service as a machine operator.
Survivors include three sons, David Wright and his wife Leasa of Fishersville, Anthony Wright and his wife Diana of Crosby, TX and Winkie Rose and his wife Tina of Fishersville; two daughters, Lynn Ellis and her husband William, Jr. of Staunton and Alma Latham of San Antonio, TX; nineteen grandchildren; twenty-one great-grandchildren; an aunt and uncle Clona and Fred Moats; and a special friend, Barbara McDorman. Mrs. Strother was the last surviving member of her family.
A Celebration of Life will be conducted at 11:00 a.m. Friday, July 22, 2011 in the Coffman Funeral Home Chapel by Pastor Samuel A. Anderson.
The family will receive friends 6 to 8:00 p.m. Thursday, July 21, 2011 in Coffman Funeral Home and Crematory and other times at the residence of Barbaras son and daughter-in-law, Winkie and Tina Rose, 13 Midway Lane, Fishersville, VA.
Interment will be private in the Newtown Cemetery in Harrisonburg, VA.
Active pallbearers will be her grandsons.
Coffman Funeral Home and Crematory, 230 Frontier Drive in Staunton is in charge of her arrangements.
