Barbara DePriest Johnson

Barbara (DePriest) Johnson, 89, of Staunton, passed away on Thursday, October 22, 2026 from complications associated with dementia.

Ms. Johnson was born in Staunton, Virginia on March 31, 1937, a daughter of the late Helen and Robert DePriest.

Barbara enjoyed reading, word puzzles and watching basketball.

In addition to her parents, Ms. Johnson was preceded in death by three sisters, Shirley Bell, Dee Forte, and Robin Worsky; five brothers, Robert “Bob” DePriest, Glen DePriest, Tom DePriest, Frank DePriest and Scott DePriest; and former spouses, Theron T. “Spritz” Benson and Glenard “Ray” Johnson.

Barbara is survived by a daughter, Amy Ettinger and her husband, Matthew of North Chesterfield, VA; a granddaughter, Hannah Ettinger of Midlothian, VA; a grandson, Brady Ettinger of North Chesterfield, VA; two sisters, Janet Schwenke of Orland Park, IL and Judith DePriest of Arlington, VA; a brother-in-law, George Gilmore of Arlington, VA; and many nieces and nephews.

A memorial service will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Friday, December 11, 2026 in the Coffman Funeral Home Chapel.

Coffman Funeral Home and Crematory, 230 Frontier Drive in Staunton is in charge of her arrangements.
