Arthur Brown “Spyder” Benson, 79, husband of Linda Irene (Cash) Benson, of Stuarts Draft, passed away on Monday, March 30, 2026 at the Shenandoah Hospice House in Fishersville.
Mr. Benson was born in Rockbridge County, Virginia on December 12, 1946, a son of the late James Ester Ramsey and Catherine Elizabeth (Harlow) Benson Ramsey.
Spyder was a proud veteran of the United States Army and later owned and operated Spyder’s Auto Services in Stuarts Draft. Racing was truly his passion and a defining part of his life—especially in his younger years when he could often be found at Natural Bridge Speedway and Eastside Speedway. Spyder was a dedicated car enthusiast, enjoyed working on vehicles, and took pride in landscaping and mowing his yard. Known for his kind heart and easygoing nature, he never met a stranger and left a lasting impression on all who knew him.
In addition to his parents, Mr. Benson was preceded in death by three brothers, Glen, Delmar, and David; and three sisters, Mary, Madeline, and Shirley.
Surviving, in addition to his wife of 60 years, is a daughter, Angelia B. Tyree and her husband, David D. of Waynesboro; two sons, Kevin S. Benson of Staunton and Darryl W. Benson and his wife, Nicole of Stuarts Draft; a sister, Polly (Benson) Thacker of Fishersville; nine grandchildren, Kayla Rosemeier and her husband, Chris, Kyle Benson, Taylor Armpriester and her husband, Vinny, Colton Tyree, Brayden Tyree, Molly Jane Benson, Tess Barger, Elijah Barger, and Ethan Barger; four great-grandchildren, Jackson Stuples, Madelyn Stuples, Matthew Rosemeier, Joey Armpriester, and an expected great-grandchild.
The family will receive friends from 6:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. on Tuesday, April 7, 2026 at Coffman Funeral Home and Crematory.
A celebration of life will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Wednesday, April 8, 2026 at Ridgeview Baptist Church by Mr. Gary Eavers.
Burial will follow in Augusta Memorial Park.
Active pallbearers will be Kevin S. Benson, Darryl W. Benson, David D. Tyree, Kyle S. Benson, Colton R. Tyree, and Brayden A. Tyree.
