Annette Lee (Varner) Wood, 76, widow of David Calvin "Pappy" Wood, of Jennings Gap, Churchville, passed away on Sunday, February 5, 2023 at her residence.
Mrs. Wood was born in Churchville, Virginia on November 17, 1946, the daughter of the late William Oaklyn Varner and Anna (Mae) Sayre.
Annette was a member of Virginia Young Homemakers Club, canning every year, sewing for the family, and winning contests for creating her own fashions. She was included in the 1979-80 Edition of "Personalities of the South".
Mrs. Wood, her husband, and three children owned and ran their family farm, where in 1980 they were "The Virginia Young Family Farm", quite an accomplishment.

For twelve years she was able to use her painting skills are a mural artist in the Salvation Army, where she also worked as an interior designer and landscape artist at their youth resort and camp. She later became a licensed hairdresser, volunteered at the Staunton Fine Arts Center, was a member of Village Church, NRA, Virginia Farm Bureau Ladies and was a proud supporter of Comfort Care Women's Health.
The best job she had was being "Granna". She loved being a mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, wife, and caregiver and passed down her hard work ethic, love of life, and creativity to her family.
In addition to her parents, and husband of forty-eight years, Mrs. Wood was preceded in death by a brother, W.M. Dale Varner.
Surviving, are three children, Cheryl Lanette W. Dove and her husband, Chris, David Dwayne Wood and his wife, Debbie, and Christine Ann W. Gibson and her husband, Rev. Don Gibson; grandchildren, Joshua Dove (Ashley), Anna Dove Balsely (Joshua), Karis Gibson (Daniel), Luke, Claire, Isaiah, Chance and Emma Gibson, Adam Wood, and Megan Adkins (Joshua); three great-grandchildren, Rory Lynn Dove, Kaley Annette Dove, and Abby Marie Dove; and two brothers, C. Ray Varner and Richard Sanders and his wife, Leslie.
The family will receive friends from 6:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. on Friday, February 10, 2023 at Coffman Funeral Home and Crematory.
A celebration of life will be held at 10:00 a.m. on Saturday, February 11, 2023 in the Coffman Funeral Home Chapel by Pastor Todd Yoder.
Burial will follow in Union Presbyterian Church Cemetery.
