Annette Elaine Schwartz, 93, of Staunton, VA died peacefully on February 27, 2019.
She was born in Clairton, PA, daughter of the late Caesar and Jennie DeChicchis.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Robert Edward Schwartz, and her daughter Corinne Marie Schwartz.
She is survived by her daughter Karen Hanna and her husband Bill; her son Robert Schwartz and his wife Sharon. Annette was loved and will be missed by her grandchildren Brooke Hanna Trzcinski and her husband Greg; Laura Hanna Byrne and her husband Michael; Brian Hanna and his wife Elizabeth; Emily Markley, Matthew Markley, and Cameron Schwartz, and her 8 great-grandchildren. She is also survived by one brother Joseph DeChicchis and his wife Elaine; one sister Eurselia DeChicchis and her husband Paul; and many beloved nieces and nephews.
Annette received her RN degree from The Western Pennsylvania School of Nursing. She then worked in the surgical unit at Case Western Hospital in Cleveland, OH until moving to Pittsburgh, PA in 1948. The family moved to Staunton in 1954 for Bob's work at Westinghouse. She was a long time member of St. Francis Catholic Church and lifelong active member of The Catholic Daughters, and involved in many civic and charitable organizations. Annette, with the assistance of Dr. Samuel Carter, established the school nurse position at St. Francis School and volunteered as the nurse for the next 8 years. The family moved back to Pittsburgh in 1966, and returned to Staunton in 1982 after the death of her husband.
The family would like to thank the loving care and support of the Birch Gardens of Royal Care and Hospice of the Shenandoah staff, and special friends Gladys Showalter and Mary Painter.
A memorial mass will be held Saturday, March 23 at 10 am at St. Francis of Assisi church. Following the service, the family invites friends to meet in the church parish hall.
Burial will be at a future date in Pittsburgh, PA.
