Obituary

Ann (Wright) Ellinger, 82, wife of Richard Preston Ellinger, of Staunton, passed away on Saturday, June 27, 2026 at Birch Ridge in Staunton.

Mrs. Ellinger was born in Staunton, Virginia on November 27, 1943 a daughter of the late James Earl Wright and Nedra (Downey) Wright.

Ann was a devoted member of St. John’s Reformed United Church of Christ. She never met a stranger, and her warm smile, kind heart, and genuine interest in others made everyone feel like a friend. She had a special love for children and lovingly cared for more than 30 children as a babysitter over the years, leaving a lasting impression on countless families. She also enjoyed serving as an Avon representative for more than 40 years, where she built many lasting friendships.

Ann found joy in both creativity and lifelong learning. She was an avid scrapbooker who treasured preserving memories and a devoted reader who enjoyed every novel by David Baldacci. She lovingly handstitched 286 stuffed bears, and she delighted in collecting bears, sloths, and giraffes. She also loved to travel and cherished taking several cruises. Ann took up piano lessons at the age of 70, proving that it is never too late to pursue a new passion.

In addition to her parents, Mrs. Ellinger was preceded in death by a sister, Alys Kerns; and a brother-in-law, Ronald “Gus” Kerns.

Surviving, in addition to her husband of 62 years, are two sons, Richard “Rick” Preston Ellinger, Jr. and his wife, Ruby of Staunton, and Steve Michael Ellinger of Virginia Beach; a daughter, Nedra Diane Keenan of Burke, VA; a brother, James “Jim” Earl Wright, II and his wife, Brenda of Staunton; a grandson, Rhys Declan Keenan; nieces, Kathy Kerns and Judi Nichols; and a great-nephew, Gus.

A memorial service will be held at 5:00 p.m. on Tuesday, June 30, 2026 at St. John’s Reformed United Church of Christ by Lay Pastor Ann Shultz and Pastor Bobby Campbell.
