Amos Irvin Breeden, 78, husband of Florence (Shiflett) Breeden of 663 Mish Barn Road, Swoope and formerly of 1565 Parkersburg Turnpike, passed away Sunday (May 30, 2010) in Envoy of Staunton.
Mr. Breeden was born in Rockbridge Baths, Virginia on January 21, 1932 a son of the late Samuel Lee and Esie Lee (Hensley) Breeden.
Amos was a member of Emmanuel Presbyterian Church in Walkers Creek. He retired in December of 1996 from Marston \u0026 Michael Heating and Cooling due to his health and prior to working at Marston \u0026 Michael he was co-owner of Breeden Roofing, Heating and Air Conditioning. Mr. Breeden enjoyed hunting, fishing, playing golf and spending time with his family.
In addition to his parents, Mr. Breeden was preceded in death by two sisters, Ann Wade and Gladys Wilfong; four brothers, Dan, Earl, Herman and Robert Breeden and his son-in-law, Mark Rooney.
Surviving in addition to his wife to whom he was married for 55 years is a daughter, Carolyn V. Rooney of Staunton; four brothers, Herbert R. Breeden of Craigsville, Lloyd S. Breeden of Verona, Harry H. Breeden and his wife Pauline and Carl W. Breeden and his wife Joyce all of Staunton; four grandchildren, Jeffrey Cason and his wife Lisa, Kristina Martin, Amber Anderson and her fianc Darrell Rowe and Martha Boo Root; ten great-grandchildren, Racheal, Casey and Thomas Cason, Gabrielle James, Austin, Chelsea and India Anderson, Alexis Martin, Journey Rubino and Jayden Bosserman; and a number of nieces, nephews, great-nieces and great-nephews also survive.
Active pallbearers will be Charlie and Marshall Shiflett, Tommy Mace, Ernie Nuckols, Jay Johnson and Arlen Breeden.
Honorary pallbearers will be his great-grandchildren and members of the Churchville First Aid Crew.
The family will receive friends Tuesday evening from 7 to 8:30 p.m. in the Coffman Funeral Home \u0026 Crematory or other times at the residence.
A funeral service will be conducted 2:00 p.m. Wednesday, June 2, 2010 in the Coffman Funeral Home Chapel by the Rev. Joel Thornton.
Burial will follow in the Augusta Memorial Park with military rites conducted by the Staunton Augusta V.F.W. Post #2216.
