Alvinzie Al Wimer, Jr., 81, husband of Anna Josephine (Floyd) Wimer of 906 Alta Street passed away Tuesday, September 13, 2016 in Kings Daughters Community Health and Rehabilitation Center.
Mr. Wimer was born on January 14, 1935 in Staunton, a son of the late Alvinzie Morgan and Helen Virginia Catherine (Jack) Wimer.
Mr. Wimer was a member of Bethany Presbyterian Church. Al was a veteran of the United States Army serving during the Korean Conflict and was retired from DuPont as a Shift Supervisor after 30 years of service. He had a great love for Bluegrass music.
In addition to his parents Mr. Wimer was preceded in death by three brothers, Boyd Hale Wimer, Reid Wimer and Harry Wimer.
Surviving in addition to his wife of 63 years, are two sons, Ronald Wayne Wimer and wife Mary Beth Sattler and David Floyd Wimer and wife Audrey Terry Wimer; a daughter, Pamela (Wimer) Waugh and husband Robert; three brothers, Charles Wimer, Leroy Wimer and Warren Wimer; a sister, Judith Strickler; seven grandchildren, Cathy, Anna, Bryan, Erik, Kelly, Mandy and Dustin; eight great-grandchildren, Mark, Niki, Kellen, Savannah, Hunter, Hannah, Ava and Elena.
The family will receive friends from 6 to 8 p.m. on Thursday, September 15, 2016 in Coffman Funeral Home and Crematory.
A Celebration of Life will be conducted at 2:00 p.m. on Friday, September 16, 2016 in Bethany Presbyterian Church by Rev. John Craft.
Burial will follow in Augusta Memorial Park.
Active pallbearers will be Bryan Waugh, Erik Waugh, Dustin Clark, Buddy Mudd, Bobby Baker and Lance Armstrong.
Honorary pallbearers will be Danny Wilson, Buster Lovegrove, Paul Lindsey, Johnny Hunter and the Men of the Bethany Church.
It is suggested that those so desiring make memorial contributions to Bethany Presbyterian Church, 2501 Fifth Street, Staunton, VA 24401.
Coffman Funeral Home and Crematory, 230 Frontier Drive, Staunton is in charge of his arrangements.
