ALPHADINE P. EDWARDS
GREENVILLE:
Alphadine Esther Dean (Painter) Edwards, 83, widow of William B. Edwards, of 4961 Lee Jackson Highway, Greenville, passed away Saturday, (January 24, 2009) at her residence.
Mrs. Edwards was born on October 23, 1925 in Greenville, a daughter of the late Homer L. Painter and Minnie (Campbell) Painter Schields.
Dean retired from Giant Foods in Forestville, Maryland in 1978 where she was employed as a cashier. She enjoyed gardening and spending time with her special friends Mac Whistleman, Sis Buchanan, Libby Poe and Millie Johnson.
In addition to her parents and her husband, Mrs. Edwards was preceded in death by a step-daughter, Betty Jo Grassa.
Survivors include a daughter and son-in-law, Treva D. Humphreys and husband Mutt of Montebello, VA; a step-son, William P. Edwards of San Diego, CA; her mother-in-law, Mrs. Thelma Edwards of Sparta, NC.; a sister, Helen Mumpower of Huntersville, NC; a brother-in-law, Thomas F. Edwards of Sparta, NC.; Also surviving are three grandchildren, Joseph Anthony Bowles and wife Lorrie, Jessica A. Humphreys and Timothy W. Humphreys; three great-grandchildren, Sierra, Mackenzie, and Tanner Bowles; two step-grandchildren, Michelle Kovak and husband Michael and Nicole Grassa; one step-great grandchild, Ben Cross and a number of nieces and nephews also survive.
A Graveside service will be conducted at 2:00 p.m. today (January 26, 2009) in the Mt. Carmel Presbyterian Church Cemetery by the Pastor John M. Ward.
There will be no public viewing.
Active pallbearers will be Nick Adkins, Buck, John and L.E. Humphreys, Bill Hipes and Terry Miller.
The family will receive friends at her residence in Greenville at anytime.
It is suggested that those desiring to make memorial donations to the AMC Hospice of the Shenandoah, 64 Sports Medicine Drive, Fishersville, VA 22939.
Coffman Funeral Home and Crematory at 230 Frontier Drive in Staunton is in charge of her arrangements.
