Alice Virginia (Allen) Brown, widow of Lewis Preston Brown, Jr. formerly of Sunnyside Street, passed away Sunday, January 21, 2018 in Envoy of Staunton.

Mrs. Brown was born on May 17th in Nelson County, a daughter of the late John D. and Ruth (Kelly) Allen.

Alice was a member of Ebenezer Baptist Church where she was a member of the senior usher board, the senior choir, the Deaconess board and Mrs. Brown was one of the founding members of the R.C. Pannell Young Ladies Auxiliary. She retired in 1989 from Genesco-L-Grief Company as a presser. Mrs. Brown enjoyed feeding the ducks at Gypsy Hill Park with her grandchildren, attending yard sales and she enjoyed gardening.

In addition to her husband and parents, Mrs. Brown was preceded in death by an infant daughter, Brenda Ruth Brown, and a brother, John Allen.

Surviving are three sons, Lewis Preston Brown, III (Cheryl) of Washington, D.C., Kelvin L. Brown of Charlotte, North Carolina, and Milton E. Brown of Washington, D.C.; a daughter, Christine D. McGruder (George) of Bowie, Maryland; six grandchildren; a number of great-grandchildren; a sister, Christine of White Plains, New York; and a number of nieces and nephews.

A Celebration of Life will be conducted 2:00 p.m. Saturday, January 27, 2018 in the Ebenezer Baptist Church by Rev. Dr. Michael A. Turner, Sr.

The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service.

Burial will follow in the Fairview Cemetery.

It is suggested those desiring make memorial contributions to the Ebenezer Baptist Church, 415 North Augusta Street, Staunton, Virginia 24401.

The family would like to extend a special Thank You to Rev. Michael Turner and the entire Ebenezer Baptist Church family as well as the Envoy Nursing Home Staff (Alzheimers Unit) for the loving care and attention given to Mrs. Brown.
