Albert Eugene Al Simmons, 78, husband of Virginia Louise (Simmons) Simmons, of 60 Virginia Drive, passed away Wednesday, July 3, 2013 at his residence.
Mr. Simmons was born November 8, 1934 in Highland County, a son of the late Ralph Scott and Erma Lillian (Waybright) Simmons.
Mr. Simmons was a member of Spring Hill Presbyterian Church, he retired in 1991 after 32 years as an inspector with the Virginia Department of Transportation, and he enjoyed hunting, carpentry and spending time at his camp.
In addition to his parents, Mr. Simmons was preceded in death by a sister, Joy Lou (Simmons) Mitchell.
Surviving in addition to his wife of 55 years is a son, Sheldon E. Simmons and wife Gail of Staunton; a daughter, Sandra S. Beverly and husband Everette of Buena Vista; a brother, Ralph Scott Simmons, Jr. and wife Fran of Front Royal; three grandchildren, Gary Harvey, Stephanie Harvey and Audrea Beverly and a number of nieces and nephews also survive.
A graveside service will be conducted at 11:00 a.m., Monday, July 8, 2013 at Oaklawn Memory Gardens by Rev. Charles A. McFarlin.
Active pallbearers will be Winfield Daniel, Timmy Gum, Greg Simmons, Chris Templeton, Delmer Vandevender, Todd Michael, and Norman Thompson.
The family will receive friends from 6:00-8:00 p.m. Sunday, July 7, 2013 at Coffman Funeral Home and Crematory and other times at the residence.
