Albert D. Gardner
STAUNTON:
Albert Dean Gardner, 57, husband of Ann Varner (Bartley) Gardner, of 1708 Barterbrook Road, passed away Monday, June 20, 2011 at his residence following an extended battle with pancreatic cancer.
Mr. Gardner was born in Floyd County, Virginia on September 29, 1953, a son of Dorothy Lois (Jones) Walters and the late Albert Signal Gardner.
In addition to his father Mr. Gardner was preceded in death by a brother, Gary Gardner.
Mr. Gardner was a member of Third Presbyterian Church and was employed with Augusta Health in the Materials Management Department before his retirement in May 2010. Prior to his employment with Augusta Health, Mr. Gardner was employed at the Raphine Exxon for a number of years. He was a loving husband and father. He enjoyed playing golf, antique cars and helping with Gypsy Hill Park Railroad.
Surviving in addition to his wife of 34 years and his mother of Stuarts Draft is a daughter Sarah Ann Bishop Gardner and her friend Deric Zwart of Greenville; step-father, Nelson Walters of Stuarts Draft; three brothers, Bernie M. Gardner and his wife Kathy of Stuarts Draft, Wendell B. Gardner and his wife Teresa of Waynesboro and William Bill Gardner and his friend Angie; close and special friend, Richard Rick Coffey, Jr. and numerous nieces and nephews also survive.
A Memorial Service will be conducted 11:00 a.m., Thursday, June 23, 2011 at Third Presbyterian Church by Rev. Jack B. Wilkers.
Burial will be private in Augusta Memorial Park.
The family will receive friends following the service and other times at the residence.
Active pallbearers will Gwen Berry, Dickie Bartley, Scott Childress, Tracey Davis, Charles Varner, Jr. and Tommy Campbell.
Honorary pallbearers will be nieces, nephews and co-workers in the Material Management Dept. at Augusta Health.
It is suggested that memorial contributions be made to Third Presbyterian Church Building Fund, 1313 Barterbrook Road, Staunton, Virginia 24401.
Coffman Funeral Home and Crematory, 230 Frontier Drive in Staunton is in charge of his arrangements.
