Agnes Elizabeth (Morgan) Brooks's Obituary

On the evening of December 23, 2020, Agnes Elizabeth Morgan Brooks left this earth unexpectedly due to a cardiovascular event.

Born in Atlanta, GA, December 10, 1971, she grew up in Richmond, VA, where she built lifelong friendships at Second Presbyterian Church and Thomas Jefferson High School. After a year at Mary Baldwin College and studying at AB Tech in Asheville, NC, she served as a youth advisor at New Hope Presbyterian Church (PC USA), during which time she spent a year in the Young Adult Volunteer program of the PCUSA in Northern Ireland.

In 2001 she returned to work she loved in the service industry as manager at the Southside Caf in Asheville, and later the Depot Grille in Lynchburg, VA"where she met Cory Brooks, the love of her life. They were married in Asheville on October 9, 2005 and made their home in Waynesboro, VA, where she worked for 12 years as office manager at the Wildlife Center of VA. She had returned to food service and became the assistant manager of the deli at Food Lion in Stuarts Draft.

During these years, Elizabeth and Cory began the most important job of their lives: raising the sons they love beyond measure. Austin David, born December 19, 2006, brims with her sensitive, nurturing kindness. Sean Declan, born December 9, 2010, bears her creativity and strong-willed spirit. They both gave us her warmth and laughter. Elizabeth's ability to build loving relationships was evident to all who witnessed how much Cory and her two boys adored her. She and Austin enjoyed sharing their hopes and dreams, especially while riding in the car. She seemed to know instinctively how to deal with the ups and downs of a growing teenager and his younger brother.
Elizabeth leaves behind family and friends who will never be the same without her, and who are better humans for having known her love: her dear husband, Cory; her beloved sons, Austin and Sean; her sister Rachel of Hendersonville, NC; and her mother, Anne Morgan of Asheville, NC. Her father, David Morgan, predeceased her on November 3, 2018. She also leaves behind Anne's sister, Sue Cumbus (John) and David's sister Gail Osteen (Gary), and special cousins, Amy Bennett (Stephen) of High Point, NC; Charlie Krohn (Jenny) and John Krohn (Jennifer) of Wilmington, NC; Laura Rhodes (Lindy) of Greenville, SC; many other relatives and cousins; and so many friends, including Mark and Amy Brooks and Chris and Sharyn Bobb.

At every turn in her life, Elizabeth gathered wonderful, faithful friends who loved her welcoming spirit, her passion for equality, and her capacity for unconditional love. She was a survivor in so many ways"demonstrating strength as she threaded her way through difficult times with inspiring optimism and grace. But it is her smile and infectious laugh that we will remember the longest.

There will be a celebration of her life at a later, safer date.
